“A hallmark sign that despite the emergency nature, we are carefully planning, controlling, and managing risk”

An ‘EXCEPTIONAL” Safety, Health, Environmental & Quality (SHEQ) Inspection score for our Emergency Reactive Teams working in partnership with Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water.

Generally, their work isn’t afforded the luxury of advanced planning, route selection, land noticing, etc with solutions decided instantly upon attending the project and captured in rapidly developed safe systems of work, the solution is negotiated as the complexity and nature of the event become apparent and is understood.

Recently working on an emergency scheme in Miskin, their exceptional effort to sympathetically and responsibly enter the area avoided unnecessary damage and disruption to the local environment. The working areas were carefully fenced and stripped to create fit-for-purpose access, stoning a particularly wet area to ensure the access remains safe with the use of tracked equipment to better maintain the working area. Of particular note was a pedestrian segregation zone which was established for the entire access route providing excellent PPI segregation – demonstrating the teams’ commitment to carefully planning, mitigating and controlling risk.

Our Managing Director, Jamie Prichard said:

“A score of “exceptional” is deserved for several reasons…..the pumping station itself has numerous automated pumps and MCC automation to mitigate discharges. The discharge pipework route is faultless. The 300mm flanged discharge traverses through various industrial properties and public footpaths, splitting into 3x 6” bags where access simply could not be achieved with large steel/ductile iron pipework – It is an innovative and well-thought-out solution and is being remotely monitored 24/7 alongside visits/fuelling/inspections etc.

The exceptional effort here is that we haven’t driven in and destroyed the area but carefully fenced and stripped to create a fit-for-purpose access. A hallmark sign that despite the emergency nature, we are carefully planning, controlling, and managing risk.”
