Upcycling and reusing materials

Upcycling old and used materials to bring them a new lease of life!

This week, our teams working in our water sector on behalf of our long term partner Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water at Dolgarrog, North Wales offered their support to the Dolgarrog Railway Society.

The Dolgarrog Railway Society aims to re-establish a small industrial railway line at Dolgarrog, in the beautiful Conwy Valley, in North Wales complete with heritage locomotives and rolling stock.

Our works on the Dolgarrog bridge culminated in a surplus of timber sleepers, which were removed from the existing bridge structure. In lieu of disposing these as waste, we approach the society to see if there was an exciting way to give them a new lease of life.

The society were thrilled with the idea and asked if they could take all the sleepers to repair the bases on the trailers which are used on the railway line and for constructing new flower beds.

Whilst we were there, we also donated topsoil and sand for the maintenance of the flower beds and a large quantity of compound stone for use on the maintenance of the railway lines themselves.

A great effort by all involved, supporting local organisations and upcycling old and used materials to bring them a new lease of life!

Thank you to Neil, Dave and Arthur for their warm welcome and for showing us some of their hard work on the railway line.
