Portbury Wharf WRC

In anticipation of very high astronomical tides in the future and the ongoing deterioration of the sea wall, Wessex Water were at significant risk of property damage, as such it was proposed to provide a sea defence around the whole perimeter of Portbury Wharf WRC to a height of 9.5mOD, providing flood resilience, these works include:

• Installation of plastic sheet pile wall with gabions.
• Design & Installation of precast wall units including RC Foundation and appropriate earthworks.
• Installation of an earthwork bund.
• Design & Installation of vehicle and pedestrian flood defence gates.

Whilst the Stage 2 report assessed the potential options and risks highlighted in the Stage 1 report (in terms of Safety, Quality, Time and Cost).

This allowed the client and design team to make informed decisions relating to a solution to meet the unique set of challenges provided by the scheme. The successful handover of the scheme to budget and a tight programme is not only testament to the skill and dedication of the direct delivery team but also demonstrates the benefit of ECI. This early engagement has resulted in a solution that provided optimal constructability and ensured that pre-planning requirements of third parties such as the EA and Natural England were satisfied.
